The search for the suspect who fatally shot three individuals at a gas station in Mississippi on New Year’s Day is still ongoing.
The residents of State Line continue to feel uneasy as the authorities have yet to capture the suspect.
“Everyone is just still scared, because they haven’t caught the person yet. Just fear. You know, you got to watch your surroundings. So, you know, everybody’s just on the lookout,” said Deon Kern, a State Line resident.
The reward for providing information that leads to the arrest of the unknown suspect has been increased to $25,000. According to Greene County deputies, the suspect is believed to be armed and poses a significant threat.
“He’s one of the most dangerous people I’ve dealt with since I’ve been in law enforcement. You know, watching the videos of, you know, each murder that took place was on video. And I’ll just say, he has no remorse,” said Greene County Deputy Brad Warrick.
The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office has taken over the case, although the sheriff’s department continues to be the lead investigator.

Currently, the community is expressing their solidarity by supporting each other and honoring the memories of Rhonda Denson, Lester Campbell, and Jason Thornton.
“Miss Rhonda, I knew her. She worked here for a long time. She went to Waynesboro and came back. She hadn’t been back to State Line long. We were glad to see her back, and the other guy that got killed, Jason, I’ve known him really all my life,” said Terry Young, a State Line resident.
