An Arizona pastor faces an indictment for allegedly using a concealed camera to unlawfully record women in the bathroom of his church.
Arturo Laguna, a religious leader at the Casa de Adoracion in Phoenix, was arrested on November 6 for allegedly installing a recording device in the bathroom in October. He has been indicted by a grand jury this month and is expected to appear in court this week.
A woman stumbled upon a camera in the bathroom after it accidentally fell out of a dryer while she was changing her baby’s diaper. This information was revealed in a police report acquired by Fox 10.
Laguna was caught red-handed when detectives discovered a screenshot revealing him tampering with the bathroom camera. Subsequently, he confessed to having installed the device back in October.
During their investigation, law enforcement officers discovered four brief videos on the camera’s SD card, capturing instances of adult females utilizing the bathroom, as per Fox 10’s report.
Laguna is facing several charges of voyeurism, which is considered a felony in Arizona.
Recording or photographing someone without their consent for sexual stimulation is a violation of their privacy. Such actions can result in charges and potentially lead to a prison sentence of up to a couple of years.
In Phoenix, Laguna is at the helm of a predominantly immigrant church with approximately 100 followers. Prior to the presidential cycle, he spoke to the Associated Press about the significance of the Latino vote in Arizona during an interview held in October.
