Police chase involving 18-wheeler unfolds across several counties in Mississippi

A man from South Carolina was taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday after a high-speed chase in an 18-wheeler truck that crossed several counties in Mississippi.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received an alert at around 12:19 a.m. on December 22nd, notifying them that a semi-truck, which had been evading the Louisiana State Police, was entering Rankin County from Scott County on I-20, heading westbound.

Deputies swiftly spotted the vehicle close to the 56-mile marker, noting its hazardous weaving across lanes. When an officer tried to pull the driver over, they adamantly refused to comply, resulting in a pursuit.

The pursuit intensified as officers from the Pearl Police Department strategically placed spike strips near the 52-mile marker. The truck collided with the strips but persisted in its westbound course, skillfully maneuvering through the City of Jackson and eventually reaching Clinton, where it finally came to a halt.

The driver barricaded himself inside the cab of the vehicle when officers approached. To apprehend him, law enforcement had to break the driver’s window.

Authorities have arrested David Sergey Pozdnyakov, a 30-year-old resident of Duncan, South Carolina. The suspect has been charged with the following offenses:

Felony Fleeing

Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Disobeying a Police Officer

Careless Driving

The Rankin County Detention Center continues to hold Pozdnyakov without a bond.

Authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the incident, and Mississippi and Louisiana may file more charges.
