Beshear allocates $8.6 million to build electric vehicle charging stations in Kentucky; Paducah included

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has recently announced that a total of $8.6 million will be granted to six developers for the construction of 11 electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state, with Paducah being one of the locations chosen.

The state is currently constructing charging stations in various cities across Kentucky. These cities include Bowling Green, Corinth, Hebron, Lexington, Louisville, Manchester, Morgantown, Oak Grove, Paducah, Sadieville, and Williamsburg.

According to Beshear, the expenditure represents an investment in Kentucky’s future, with the aim of encouraging individuals to move to the state.

“Kentucky remains at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution,” declared Governor Beshear. “By establishing a strong network of charging stations, we are providing peace of mind to EV drivers, ensuring they can easily find a convenient place to recharge. These rapid charging stations are an investment that benefits residents, workers, and visitors alike, as they contribute to our goal of making Kentucky a welcoming destination for all.”

The press release states that the stations will be located along Kentucky’s interstates and parkways that are designated as Alternative Fuel Corridors. These stations will provide support for long-distance driving for both residents of the state and travelers visiting Kentucky.

Funding for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program was established under the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“The federal dollars coming to Kentucky are allowing us to invest in 21st century infrastructure that is supporting driver’s choices,” said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray. “That investment is quickly being realized. We’ll see more fast charging stations coming online soon, and we expect to have 50 stations open along Kentucky’s interstates and parkways by late 2026. It’s exciting to see this vital charging network take shape.”
