Mississippi Traffic Stop Discover Alleged Multi-state Gang Involved In Stealing Cooking Grease: ‘it’s Not One Of Those Bright And Shiny Things But It Has Value’

A suspected multi-state operation involving the theft of recyclable cooking grease was uncovered during a traffic stop in Mississippi. This operation has resulted in businesses suffering significant financial losses amounting to thousands of dollars.

According to WLOX, the Picayune Police officers initiated an investigation after a local business owner reported the disappearance of cooking grease. In response, they decided to set up surveillance.

Cooking grease, often overlooked, holds value because it can be processed into biofuel, making it a prime target for theft.

Officers conducting surveillance on December 13 witnessed a truck pumping grease from a storage tank and subsequently conducted a traffic stop.

The suspects’ connection to a larger multi-state operation affecting businesses across Mississippi and Louisiana was revealed through evidence, including a manifest detailing theft locations.

Police Chief Joe Quave emphasized the importance of an item that may not appear flashy but holds significant value, stating, “A crook will find some way to get it.”

Authorities are currently investigating the extent of the operation and are urging businesses that have grease storage tanks to review their surveillance footage for any signs of suspicious activity.

The suspects are currently facing pending charges.
