Police arrest 3 individuals believed to be involved in the reported theft of a 79-year-old woman at Ward Parkway shops

Three suspects are facing charges of physically assaulting a 79-year-old woman in Kansas City. The incident occurred last Thursday night after the woman and her granddaughters had finished shopping at the Ward Parkway Trader Joe’s. The prosecutors in Jackson County are pursuing legal action against the perpetrators.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, police received a call about a strong-armed robbery in the parking lot outside the store.

While waiting near her car for her granddaughter to return a shopping cart, the woman was suddenly struck by an assailant. She quickly realized that her purse had been stolen.

According to court documents, the woman was assessed at the scene but declined further medical attention out of concern for her granddaughters, not wanting them to be affected by the incident.

Within half an hour of the reported robbery, Lee’s Summit police received a notification from Target Loss Prevention personnel regarding a suspected fraudulent attempt to use a credit/debit card at the Target store located at 1850 NW Chipman Road.

Target employees guided the police to a white Toyota Camry, where they believed the suspects were situated.

During the traffic stop, the police officers intercepted a Camry and discovered three individuals inside. Among the suspects was Omarion Swift, a 20-year-old, who was apprehended with the alleged possession of the stolen financial cards.

On Saturday, Swift faced charges for allegedly committing second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card. Detectives also questioned another adult suspect, identified as Jeremy Madden, 18, who was subsequently charged with second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a debit/credit card.

The authorities did not question the third suspect, who was a juvenile, but instead took them to a juvenile detention facility due to their alleged fraudulent use of a debit/credit card.

Both Swift and Madden were set to appear in court on Monday afternoon. They are currently being held at the Jackson County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
