A 47-year-old man was shot and killed by a pair of masked men who arrived at a Washington Heights NYCHA apartment, authorities said Sunday.
According to sources, David Brown answered a knock on the door of his Polo Grounds Towers apartment on Frederick Douglass Blvd. near W. 155th St. at 10:55 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the sources, Brown let them in, and one of the men shot him in the abdomen.
Medics took the man to Harlem Hospital after police received a 911 call, but they were unable to save him. Initially, it was unclear if Brown resided in the apartment where he sustained his injuries.
The murderers escaped and are still at large.
One woman who grew up in the building and was visiting her mother, who still lives on the 14th floor, described the occurrence as frightening.
“We never had something like that happen on our floor, so finding that out, it actually scared us and shocked us because we didn’t know who it was,” said the woman, who did not want to be identified, adding: “I just want to send my prayers and my condolences to his family.”
Nine months had passed since a man’s fatal shooting in a Polo Grounds parking lot. On March 3, just outside the building where he resided with his mother and sister, shots repeatedly struck Kenneth Taveras, 33, in the chest.
In April, police announced they were looking for a suspect, Gekron Williams, 24, in connection with the killing.
