A deadly crash occurred south of San Tan Valley on Monday morning, involving up to five vehicles. According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the incident began at around 8 a.m. when a reckless driver was reported swerving on Hunt Highway. A sheriff’s deputy spotted the driver, who allegedly nearly collided with the deputy before crossing into oncoming traffic and causing a crash.
The at-fault driver, 52-year-old Steven Berbaum, sustained fatal injuries, while one of the other drivers reported minor injuries. Hunt Highway was closed in both directions for several hours and reopened at about 4:30 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.
