A freeze warning has been issued for much of Southern Arizona, including the Tucson Metro area, Southeast and South Central Pinal County, and the Tohono O’odham Nation. Temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 20s to low 30s overnight, with sub-freezing conditions from midnight Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service warns that these freezing temperatures could cause significant damage to crops and outdoor vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing may also freeze. Residents are urged to take precautions by wrapping exposed pipes, bringing pets indoors, and covering sensitive plants.
Chilly weather is expected to persist throughout the week, with overnight lows remaining in the 30s. Daytime highs may reach the mid-60s by Friday, bringing a slight warm-up. Drivers should also be cautious during the early morning hours as frost on the roads could create slick conditions, especially on State Route 77 and Interstate 10 in rural areas.
