On December 1, 2017, 17-year-old Maggie Long was tragically found murdered in her burned home near Bailey, Colorado, located about 35 miles southwest of Denver. Despite ongoing efforts, the case remains unsolved, and authorities are still offering a significant reward for information that leads to an arrest in her death.
Long’s home was discovered to have been burglarized and set on fire, with several items, including firearms, ammunition, jade figurines, and a safe, reported stolen. Investigators believe that more than one individual was involved in the crime, which ultimately resulted in Long’s death.
According to a 2023 report from the Colorado Springs Gazette, Long is thought to have encountered at least three people who were robbing her home before she was killed. In 2021, the case was reclassified from a random crime to a hate crime. At the time of her death, Long was a senior in high school.
“Someone must know something that can help solve this case and bring justice to Maggie’s family and the Bailey community,” said Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw. “Just one tip could make all the difference, and we are committed to resolving one of Colorado’s most notable cold cases.”
To encourage the submission of new information, a $75,000 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest. The reward is supported by the Park County Sheriff’s Office, Maggie Long’s family, the ATF, the FBI, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
