Waterloo Official Arrested for Alleged Theft at Walmart

Waterloo City Council Member Nia Wilder was charged with fourth-degree theft on Friday afternoon following an incident at a Walmart in Des Moines.

According to the police report, Wilder took items from store shelves and scanned them using the Walmart Plus Membership App while still inside the store. She then intentionally removed $420.33 worth of merchandise from the app after scanning it.

Wilder was stopped by a loss prevention employee at the exit and admitted to the theft. She was subsequently taken to the Polk County Jail.

A Waterloo native, Wilder has been involved in various community organizations, serving on several boards and committees, including the Waterloo Police Advisory Board, the North End Music & Arts Festival, and The Grout Museum District, among others.
