Police Search for Suspect in Deadly Machete Attack on Houston Neighbor
Authorities in Houston are actively searching for a 52-year-old man accused of fatally attacking his neighbor with a machete, allegedly hacking him at least 25 times.
The suspect, Alvaro Lovos, is believed to have fatally attacked 67-year-old Charlie Wilson outside a convenience store on November 19. According to police, Wilson was severely wounded, with at least 15 of the 25 machete strikes delivered after he had already collapsed on the ground.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Wilson dead from “multiple sharp force injuries with chop wounds to the head and neck,” an autopsy later confirmed. The machete, which was covered in blood, was found nearby.
Witnesses, including a clerk from the convenience store, identified Lovos as a frequent customer who lived in an apartment attached to the store. Surveillance footage further implicated Lovos, who later spoke to authorities and claimed to have seen two men walking away from Wilson’s body. Despite being covered in blood, Lovos told Wilson’s family and the police that he had tried to help the victim. At the time, Lovos was not arrested.
Police later charged Lovos with murder after further investigation linked him to the fatal attack. A motive for the killing remains unclear.
Wilson’s brother, Willie Ray, expressed confidence that Lovos would be caught but also voiced concerns about the suspect’s whereabouts. “He can run, but he can’t hide,” Ray told reporters. However, he also admitted feeling uneasy knowing that Lovos is still at large. “I’m kinda nervous of him. He might try to double back and do me,” he added.
As of now, Lovos remains on the run, and police are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Houston Police Department at 713-308-3600.
