Man Arrested for Allegedly Burglarizing Police Impound Lot
Colorado Springs police apprehended a man Tuesday afternoon after he was spotted inside the Colorado Springs Police Department impound lot on East Las Vegas Street, an area recently targeted by burglaries.
Around 1:40 p.m., officers from the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) observed a man inside the lot at 2700 E. Las Vegas St. According to authorities, the man appeared to be unaccompanied by an employee, prompting officers to monitor his actions. Police said multiple vehicles in the impound lot had been burglarized since October.
The officers reportedly saw the man enter an RV and take items from inside. When officers attempted to confront him, the suspect fled toward Greenway Trail. After a brief pursuit, officers detained the man, later identified as 51-year-old Paul K.R. Williams.
Williams was transported to the Criminal Justice Center, where he was booked on several unrelated warrants. Additionally, he now faces charges of first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal trespass, and obstructing a peace officer.
Investigators later discovered that Williams had been arrested for breaking into the same impound lot on two prior occasions, in March and August of this year.
