According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested after calling 911 on Wednesday to report a bogus emergency while high on methamphetamine and other narcotics while caring for a four-year-old child.
Hezekiah Spore, 33, of Buckhannon, called 911 three times Wednesday night to tell that someone was attempting to kill him, authorities said.
Spore said on one occasion that he could hear a male through the wall in the apartment next door threatening to kill him, and on the second time that he heard a man next door “come pull a gun on him,” forcing him to go upstairs and hide, according to court documents.
Deputies examined the flat next door, but just one woman was present.
Spore contacted 911 again about an hour later, saying someone threatened him that “if he stepped foot on the sidewalk, they were going to shoot him,” and while there, deputies learned he had a four-year-old daughter.
Spore informed deputies that he brought his daughter to another person’s apartment out of fear for her safety, and deputies were able to locate the child, who was fine, according to court filings.
Deputies said they believed Spore to be under the influence of narcotics due to acting “extremely fidgety, hallucinating, exhibited paranoia and increased anxiety.” They were also made aware that there were multiple knives and sharp objects scattered among Spore’s room, along with a plugged-in toaster oven, all of which were easily accessible and could have caused harm to the child, court documents say. The apartment was also in “very poor and unsanitary conditions,” deputies said.
Spore agreed to do a urine drug and alcohol test, and he tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, THC, benzodiazepines, and alcohol, according to court filings.
Spore was charged with child neglect, creating a risk of injury and falsely reporting an emergency situation. He is currently in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, with a bond of $4,500.
