On February 25th, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), detained Roxana Beatriz Ayala-Duran, 41, an unlawfully present Salvadoran national in Alexandria. Ayala-Duran had a prior assault conviction in Virginia.
ICE officers underlined the importance of public safety in the region. “The arrest of Roxana Beatriz Ayala-Duran demonstrates ICE’s commitment to apprehending and removing illegal alien offenders from our Washington, D.C. and Virginia communities,” stated Russ Hott, Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations’ Washington, D.C. Field Office. “We will not condone Ms. Ayala’s conviction for a violent act against a Virginian.” ICE personnel continue to prioritize the protection of the public.”
Ayala-Duran has a history with US immigration officials dating back to September 14, 2004, when she was detained by Border Patrol near Douglas, Arizona, after illegally entering the country.
A Department of Justice immigration court issued her a notice to appear the following day.
An immigration judge ordered Ayala-Duran’s removal from the United States to El Salvador on December 22, 2004.
In addition to her immigration issues, Ayala-Duran was found guilty of assault on August 10, 2020, by the Alexandria General District Court. She was sentenced to 30 days in prison, but the whole sentence was suspended.
