Two men wanted for multiple crimes led police on a chase that began in southern Wisconsin and concluded with a crash in the northern suburbs of Chicago on Monday.
According to the police, both men were arrested and another motorist was injured as a result of the crash.
Police pursue suspects
What we understand so far: Around 8:45 a.m., a Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a Chevrolet Cavalier that belonged to a man wanted for several criminal charges in Lake County, Illinois.
Mason Spencer, the owner of the car, does not possess a valid driver’s license.
The police attempted to pull over the car on USH-45, but the suspect quickly accelerated away at a high speed as soon as the deputy activated their emergency lights and sirens.
The deputies made the decision to follow the car into Illinois because they believed that if the suspect were to escape, it would pose an extreme risk to the public.
At the intersection of USH-45 and IL-173, the suspect car collided with another car, rendering both vehicles inoperable. Deputies discovered three individuals inside the suspect car.
According to the police, Spencer, who is 31 years old, had multiple active warrants for his arrest.
Raymond Underwood, aged 32, was behind the wheel of the vehicle and subsequently taken into custody on multiple charges, including four counts of fleeing and reckless endangerment of society.
One individual was initially taken into custody but was ultimately released without facing any criminal charges.
The individual in the car that was hit by the suspect’s car sustained minor injuries. Furthermore, they were apprehended and taken into custody due to existing warrants.
What we don’t know: The third person taken into custody by the police was not identified.
Spencer and Underwood’s connection to other crimes remained unclear.
Lake County Sheriff’s police are currently investigating the crash and have taken custody of Spencer and Underwood.
