The recent sentencing of a Mexican National in Idaho for drug trafficking has added to the growing number of individuals in his family who are serving time for similar crimes. Currently, there are six family members incarcerated, excluding his sister who is awaiting a court date in February 2025.

Efren Alexander Aviles-Pacheco comes from a family with a history of drug-related crimes. The lineage of convictions dates back to 2015 when his father was sentenced to 20 years in Idaho for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

In 2024, not only Efren but also his mother, uncle, grandfather, and grandmother were all sentenced. Additionally, his sister was indicted in early December and her trial is set for February 10, 2025.

Efren, a 29-year-old residing in the United States without proper documentation, found himself facing significant legal consequences. He received a 15-year prison sentence for the charge of ‘possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine,’ and an additional 10 years of supervised release. It was made clear by the judge that once Efren completed his sentence, he would undoubtedly be deported to Mexico.

Efren was apprehended in 2022 at a Nampa hotel, as per court records cited on the DOJ website. During the arrest, authorities discovered meth, fentanyl, cocaine, over $3 thousand in cash, and a handgun in his possession.
