Car theft poses a significant issue nationwide, with personal vehicles often being the primary target. However, a recent incident in Ohio took a different turn when a man stole a semi-truck and proceeded to engage in a prolonged pursuit after eluding a traffic stop. This reckless act not only consumed valuable police resources, but also endangered the safety of those around him. As a result, the perpetrator has been apprehended and is now in custody.
Committing car theft and evading a traffic stop are surefire ways to end up in jail
WCPO reported that on January 11th, the Ohio State Highway Patrol was notified about a case of car theft involving a semi-truck in Indiana. The pursuit of the truck began around 12:45 in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. Unfortunately, the driver of the stolen truck refused to comply and evaded the police. As an act of evasion, the driver even resorted to throwing hammers and other tools at the pursuing officers. During this incident, the Middletown and Trenton Police Departments also provided assistance, and the pursuit took place in Butler County.
The police persisted in their efforts to bring the traffic to a halt. Despite the driver briefly venturing into Preble County, they soon returned to Butler County, with law enforcement trailing closely behind. Remarkably, officers from Butler County also joined the pursuit of the car theft suspect. Eventually, the decision was made to deploy stop sticks, which successfully deflated the tires of the semi truck and prompted the man to pull over. This incident took place in Hamilton.
Joseph Allen Horton was arrested by the police following a forced traffic stop. The charges against him include failure to comply and receiving stolen property, both of which are considered felonies. As the investigation continues, additional charges are expected to be filed. The police chase lasted approximately 90 minutes before Horton finally pulled over. It is yet to be determined what other charges he will face.
