According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama, Arthur Varcea Colvin, 23, was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison on March 4, 2025, for narcotics trafficking and firearms charges. Colvin will serve his sentence and then be released under supervision for three years. In the federal system, parole is not an option.
The accusations originate from an event on February 1, 2023, when Montgomery Police performed a traffic check after noticing an infraction. Colvin was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Le’Anthony Washington, who was 28 years old.
During the stop, law officers became suspicious of illegal narcotics in the vehicle, resulting in a search. Authorities discovered three firearms: a .40-caliber handgun beneath the driver’s seat, an AR-15 pistol under the front passenger’s seat, and a 9mm handgun on the back floorboard. They also found more than 400 grams of marijuana in the trunk. They discovered Colvin carrying a firearm and a small amount of marijuana on his person.
In October 2024, Colvin pled guilty to possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a handgun in furtherance of a drug trafficking felony. Washington, who had a previous felony history, was also involved.
In October 2024, Washington pleaded guilty to felony possession of a handgun. He was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison, beginning on January 31, 2025.
