Choctaw Police in Oklahoma reported that a fire broke out at an animal rescue center, resulting in the rescue of 23 dogs while unfortunately claiming the lives of 12 other dogs. The owner’s family also shared the devastating news that approximately 17 goats perished in the fire.
Diane has set up a sign outside her home, requesting donations to assist Fur Ever Friends Rescue. According to her friends, she is in need of various supplies.
“She was just in there trying to save as many dogs as she could,” a family member of the owner said on video while recording the fire. “The whole barn’s on fire.”
“This is more than just a rescue to Diane,” Diane’s friend Kim West said. “These are her personal dogs. She’s lost everything in that barn. She’s lost all the food for the animals. Diane saved a lot of those animals.”
According to Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall, the owner jeopardized her own safety in order to save her animals.
“She has suffered some smoke inhalation,” Chief Marshall said. “She’s fine. It’s very emotional for her. These are her babies.”
According to West, the elderly mother of the owner, who resides with her, is safe, along with the co-workers who were not present at the shelter during the fire.
“It’s hard,” West said. “It’s a very, very unfortunate accident that happened.”
Donations are being accepted at the Bob Moore Subaru in Edmond for the rescue.
According to a friend of the owner, they are in need of a wide range of items for their pets. This includes food, treats, collars, blankets, and pet cleaning supplies.
“Just everything and anything that you can think of would be greatly, greatly appreciated because she’s lost it all.”
The rescue organization mentioned that they also welcome cash donations.
