Houston Teen Arrested for Capital Murder Following Deadly Shootout at Apartment Complex
A 17-year-old, Adiel Sandoval, was arrested and charged with capital murder following a fatal shooting at a Houston apartment complex on Tuesday evening. The deadly altercation left three individuals dead, including Sandoval’s 23-year-old brother, Juan Sandoval.
According to court documents, the incident began as a disturbance involving Adiel, his brother Juan, and two other teens, Eddie Gomez and Jonathan Hernandez, both 17 years old. The situation escalated when gunfire was exchanged in the apartment complex’s laundromat. Witnesses reported that the teens in the laundromat appeared to have a gun, though it was later suggested that it might have been a fake weapon.
During the exchange of gunfire, Adiel allegedly called for his brother’s help before opening fire. It remains unclear who initiated the shooting. Juan Sandoval was killed in the altercation, along with the two teens, Gomez and Hernandez.
Adiel Sandoval fled the scene following the incident but was located the next day. He was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, facing charges of capital murder. While no bond has been set, authorities have indicated that any potential bond would include conditions barring Sandoval from having contact with members of the MS-13 gang.
The shooting occurred at the Tierra de Sol apartment complex, where residents reported hearing at least a dozen gunshots during the incident. One resident initially mistook the sounds for fireworks.
Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Alvaro Guzman described the event as “tragic,” acknowledging the loss of young lives.
