In a surprising drug bust, police officers in Illinois recently conducted a routine truck inspection and uncovered an astonishing amount of illegal drugs. More specifically, they discovered over 1,300 lbs of cocaine, among other illicit substances. As a result of this alarming find, the semi-truck driver now faces several serious charges.
Cops find 1,300 lbs of cocaine during truck inspection
The Illinois State Police had an ordinary day until a routine truck inspection took an unexpected turn and led to a significant drug seizure. As the police officers approached the driver of the semi-truck, they immediately detected a powerful scent of marijuana.
Wane, the driver, Gurpreet Singh, confessed to having a vaping device in his rig, which led to a search. Upon searching, authorities discovered a vape, as well as a container filled with raw marijuana and THC gummies.
During the search of the tractor-trailer, police officers made an observation that caught their attention. They noticed that the seal between the trailer doors and the bill of landing did not match up. Intrigued by this discrepancy, they decided to take a closer look. To their surprise, they discovered 17 hidden totes concealed within a shipment of oranges.
The tote bags concealed a total of 510 packages filled with a white powdery substance, which was confirmed to be cocaine upon testing. The truck driver had concealed an astonishing 1,300 lbs of cocaine.
Singh confessed to being aware of the drugs and revealed that he had collaborated with someone else to transport cocaine from California to Indiana in exchange for payment. As part of the arrangement, he was responsible for delivering the drugs to another driver at a rest stop on I-69 in Warren.
Singh was followed by the police to the meeting location in New Haven. Subsequently, the other driver involved, identified as Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal, was apprehended by the authorities.
Singh and Dhaliwal faced charges of attempting and conspiring to distribute and possess over five kilos of a controlled substance, specifically cocaine.
