10-year prison sentence for convicted felon distributing fentanyl in Virginia

A man from Virginia received a 10-year sentence for distributing fentanyl recently.

On January 17th, Christopher Brown from Pennington Gap received his sentencing in Lee Circuit Court, as announced by the Virginia Attorney General, Jason Miyares.

According to a release from the Attorney General’s Office, Brown was involved in the distribution of fentanyl on three different occasions and was also found in possession of a firearm during the trafficking of this dangerous drug. This took place between March 1 and March 7, 2023.

According to the statement, Brown had already been convicted of a felony when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for committing multiple counts of the following crimes:

    • The distribution of fentanyl
    • Possession of a firearm as a convicted felon
    • Possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance

“Virginia will not tolerate those who seek to profit from addiction and destruction,” Miyares said in a statement. “The fentanyl epidemic demands vigilance, determination, and action, and we will continue to fight every day to protect our communities, save invaluable lives, and ensure that justice prevails. I’m proud to support our law enforcement partners who work tirelessly to keep Virginians safe.”

The press release states that numerous state and local officials from Lee County were involved in the investigation and prosecution.

“I commend the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Southwest Virginia Drug Task Force, and the Virginia State Police for their tireless work in investigating and bringing this case to a successful conclusion, and for helping to eliminate deadly fentanyl from circulation in Lee County. I also want to recognize Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Don Williams and Attorney General Jason Miyares’ Ceasefire Virginia program for supporting this successful prosecution,” said Lee County Commonwealth’s Attorney H. Fuller Cridlin.
